You may be a candidate for weight-loss surgery if:

  • You weigh more than 100 pounds over ideal weight or classified as morbidly obese
  • You have a body mass index (BMI) of 40 or higher, measuring ratios of muscles and body fat
  • You have a BMI of 35-40, along with other serious health conditions like type 2 diabetes, sleep apnea and high blood pressure
  • Repeated attempts to lose weight have been unsuccessful, even with diets, exercise, therapy, medication and alternative therapies
